If you go to the gym, why are all of the closest parking spaces taken? You are going to the GYM!

I've got a question, what is with some of the phrases in our language?

-I go there every now and again... That means you're there all the time, and then some
-I don't give a rat's ass... Who wants to recieve a rat's ass?
-The Special Olympics... Way to make them feel useful to society
-A red herring... How did a fish ever become a false clue?
-Naked as a Jaybird... Last time I checked (5 minutes) all birds had feathers of some type

That' all I've got for now

I have always been troubled by the phrase "I could care less". To me it seems that it is always used to describe a time when you really don't care about something. Atleast I have always heard it used as such. So I don't see why someone who is seemingly indifferent or apethetic would say that they could care less! It's like they mean to say that on a scale of 1 - 10 they care 0, however they are really saying they care 3 or something of the sort. Does anyone know what I mean? Hmm.

This has been a concept struggled with for generations among people with any amount of inquisition. Simply ignore it and it just might go away...

I am not sure that is the best strategy Demo. If you had an infection and said, "Simply ignore it and it just might go away...", you could die. lol Smile

PostSubject: Just a funny english thing   Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:03 am

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby
English will be the official language of the European Union rather
than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a
5-year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will
make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in
favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have
one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the
troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like
fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted
to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have
always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the
horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it
should go away.

By the 4th yer, people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th"
with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be
dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a
reil sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and
evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united
urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in
ze forst plas.
